Engagement Shoot – Louise & Martin

On Sunday I had the pleasure of attending a pre wedding engagement shoot at the beautiful Ashridge estate. Louise and Martin brought along their daughters Freya and Emily so we could take the opportunity to combine the engagement shoot with a lifestyle session within these stunning grounds.

The woods there provide a beautiful scene, whether in the ancient woodland or the more recently planted forest. It is no surprise that these very grounds were used for filming in the Disney hit family film, Maleficent. We had the added bonus of being there in the bluebell season providing a stunning blue carpet for some memorable and unique portraits. The vertical tree trunks contrasting with the horizontal band of blue made for a graphic yet gentle backdrop.

Although the park is very popular at this time of year, as we explored some of the 5000 acres, we were easily able to capture some beautiful moments of this lovely family with the park looking quiet and peaceful!!

Freya & Emily were a delight to photograph, it was easy to capture natural pictures of them while they were having fun with their Mum and Dad exploring the glorious grounds. Many of the lifestyle family shots are simple intimate moments of the four of them just enjoying their time together as we made our way around. Sometimes the best pictures are the ones nobody knows are being taken, these are always the most natural.

Once we got to the bluebell area we practised some more formal poses of just Louise and Martin to focus on their engagement shoot. The girls found it very mischievous to hide behind the trees and peek out every so often making for some great fun family pictures. We always welcome couples to bring along their children to an engagement shoot as we know that they are going to be a very important part of their wedding day and they too need to get used to us as the photographer. The purpose of an engagement shoot is to build a relationship between the couple and the photographer as well as seeing what the couple in question feel comfortable with, what they like and what they are not so keen on. This aids our planning of the actual wedding day and ensures we know exactly what the bride and groom wish to achieve.

It was great getting to know them all, and I am looking forward to seeing them again on their wedding day in July.

Best wishes
